More than 50 service projects, mostly small, hands-on activities, were completed during that time. Father Joseph MacCarthy consecrated a 10-foot steel beam recovered from the rubble at the World Trade Center during a memorial service on South Spooner Street in Plymouth. This past spring, Plymouth Fire Deputy Chief Michael Young helped transport the artifact from Hanger 17 at JFK International Airport in New York City to Plymouth. &#8220;I saw all the other relics and apparatus from the [New York City] police department, fire department and port authority that was damaged. Seeing the immensity of those structural steel beems that were bent like ribbon candy, being that close to the event, was just such a somber experience,&#8221; Young said on Sunday. He said the steel beam soon will be placed on a pedestal and open to public view in front of Quintal Brothers Fruit Market. Seven years ago, a Sept. 11 memorial was dedicated in front of the shop.
